Sprinkler Model Summary:
- The Toro® 730 was introduced to replace the Model 660, and Model 630 series. It's higher pop-up height made the 730 a much better sprinkler than the 630 for use in roughs, and around greens.
However, the 730 has not been a satisfactory replacement for the the 660. This is because the 660 was specifically designed for low pressure operation (50, and 65 psi). During the 1980's, products that conserved energy were in high demand, and Toro® responded to that with the 660 models. There is a reduction in energy consumption for the reduction in pressure. Energy savings like that encouraged many designers to recommend the 660 at 50 psi. During the 1990's, energy conservation took a back seat, and the 660 was replaced with the 730.
- The FCI retrofit nozzles for the 730 are designed for use at 50, and 65 or 80 psi.
- The benefits of low pressure operation are not only energy savings, but FCI nozzles designed for low pressure will perform better than high pressure during windy conditions.
